The energy price cap rose on 1 July. See what it means for your bill

How it works

  1. Upload your bill

Drop in a PDF or a photo of your latest energy bill.

  2. We read it in plain English

We pull out the key numbers and explain what each one means.

  3. See if you’re overpaying

We compare your usage to similar homes and show whether your bill is normal.

What we can explain

Confused why your direct debit is higher than the energy you’re using? We explain how suppliers set that figure, and when it’s worth pushing back.

Not sure what the standing charge on your bill is for, or why you pay it even in a month you barely used any energy? That one catches a lot of people out.

On British Gas, EDF, Octopus, E.ON Next or ScottishPower? Here’s how to read your bill, supplier by supplier. Start with why your British Gas bill might be so high, or find your own supplier’s guide.

Want to know whether the Ofgem price cap really caps your bill? It doesn’t mean what most people think, and we walk you through what it does.

Seen the headlines about the 13% price-cap rise? The amount most bills change by is rather different. We explain why the headline figure and your bill don’t always match.

Your bill is deleted the moment we’re done with it. It’s read in memory and never written to disk or stored. We keep only a few anonymised numbers, so we can tell you whether your bill is normal for a home your size.

Common questions

Is it free?
Yes. Uploading your bill and getting a plain English explanation is completely free, every time. There's no trial and no paywall.
Do I need to create an account?
No. You can upload your bill and get the full explanation without an account, a password, or even your email address. We only ask for your email afterwards if you'd like us to let you know when a better deal appears, and that's entirely optional.
Is my bill safe?
Your bill is read entirely in memory and deleted as soon as we're done, usually within 8 seconds. It is never written to disk, never stored in a database, and we send a no-store instruction on every AI request. We keep only 5 anonymised figures: your yearly usage, unit rate, supplier name, postcode district, and property type.
What if you can't read my bill?
It happens. Some bills are scanned at odd angles or hide the key numbers in a tariff table. If we can't read a figure with confidence, we'll show you what we did find and ask you to confirm or type in the missing bits (yearly usage, unit rate and standing charge). You still get your result.
Do you sell my data?
No. We never sell your data, and we never share your bill or anything that could identify you. The few anonymised figures we keep are used only to work out what a normal bill looks like for homes like yours.
